4 Days in Rhodes
For travellers who want a balanced mix of medieval Old Town immersion, Lindos cliffside ruins, beaches, and inland Rhodes culture without rushing the experience

Day 1
Morning
Begin inside Rhodes Old Town, a fully enclosed medieval city where every street feels like part of a preserved historical network rather than a reconstructed attraction. The massive stone walls immediately set the tone: this was once one of the most powerful fortified cities in the Mediterranean.
Start at the Street of the Knights, where Gothic stone buildings once housed different orders of knights from across Europe. The street remains one of the most atmospheric medieval corridors in Europe, with arched doorways, carved stone coats of arms, and heavy symmetry.
Continue to the Palace of the Grand Master, a fortress-palace that blends defensive architecture with ceremonial spaces, reflecting Rhodes’ importance during the Crusader period.
Afternoon
Move deeper into the Old Town, where the atmosphere shifts into quieter residential lanes, small squares, and Byzantine-era churches tucked between medieval structures.
Pause for lunch inside the Old Town’s stone-built tavernas.
Lunch ideas
- Gyros with tzatziki in warm pita
- Moussaka layered with eggplant and minced meat
- Greek salad with thick-cut tomatoes and olives
- Spanakopita and cheese pies
- Fresh lemonade or iced coffee
After lunch, walk toward the outer defensive walls. The scale becomes more apparent here, with thick ramparts, bastions, and panoramic viewpoints over both the Old Town and the sea.
Evening
Walk toward Mandraki Harbour, historically believed to be the site of the Colossus of Rhodes. Today it is a calm waterfront lined with windmills, cafés, and the deer statues marking the harbour entrance.
As the sun sets, the harbour becomes one of the most atmospheric places on the island.
Dinner ideas:
- Grilled octopus with lemon and olive oil
- Fresh sea bream or red mullet
- Lamb slow-cooked with herbs
- Meze platters (tzatziki, fava, olives, grilled vegetables)
- Local white wine or rosé
- Baklava or honey desserts
Day 2
Morning
Head to Tsambika Beach, a long golden shoreline on Rhodes’ east coast. It is one of the most visually open beaches on the island, with wide sand, shallow turquoise water, and surrounding hills that frame the coastline.
The morning is best kept slow and immersive:
- swimming in calm water
- long shoreline walks
- sunbed relaxation
- optional climb to Tsambika Monastery viewpoint
Afternoon
Continue along the east coast, either staying at Tsambika or moving to nearby beaches like Agathi or Kolymbia depending on energy levels.
Lunch ideas:
- Grilled fish with lemon and herbs
- Chicken souvlaki wraps
- Greek salads with feta and olive oil
- Fried calamari and zucchini chips
- Fresh fruit smoothies or iced coffee
The afternoon remains intentionally unstructured, focusing on beach rhythm rather than sightseeing pressure.
Evening
Return to Rhodes Town for a relaxed evening outside the Old Town walls.
Dinner ideas:
- Wood-fired pizza or pasta
- Light seafood dishes
- Souvlaki plates
- Gelato or ice cream
- Local wine or cocktails
Day 3
Morning
Travel to Lindos, one of the most iconic settlements in Greece. The village appears as a cluster of white cubic houses built into a hillside beneath a dramatic ancient acropolis.
Climb to the Lindos Acropolis, where ancient Greek ruins sit dramatically above the sea. The experience combines archaeology, Crusader remnants, and natural landscape in one unified viewpoint.
From the top, you see:
- St. Paul’s Bay
- Lindos Bay
- the rugged southeastern coastline
- white village rooftops below
Afternoon
Descend into Lindos village for lunch and exploration. The narrow streets are filled with small shops, rooftop terraces, and shaded cafés carved into stone architecture.
Lunch ideas
- Fresh grilled octopus or calamari
- Seafood mezze with olive oil and herbs
- Stuffed vine leaves (dolmades)
- Greek salads with island tomatoes
- Local white wine or chilled drinks
After lunch, head to St. Paul’s Bay, a sheltered turquoise cove framed by cliffs. The water is calm, enclosed, and visually striking, making it one of the best swimming spots on the island.
Evening
Return to Rhodes Town in the late afternoon.
Dinner ideas
- Lamb kleftiko (slow-cooked lamb)
- Seafood pasta with herbs
- Meze sharing platters
- Local wines from Rhodes vineyards
- Honey-based desserts or yogurt with walnuts
Day 4
Morning
Start inland at the Valley of Butterflies, a shaded natural reserve formed by streams, wooden walkways, and dense greenery. In summer, thousands of butterflies gather in the cool, humid environment, creating a quiet and almost surreal natural setting. The atmosphere is completely different from coastal Rhodes: cooler, greener, and more enclosed.
Afternoon
Continue to Kallithea Springs, one of the most architecturally distinctive coastal sites on the island. Built during the Italian occupation, it combines elegant geometric design with natural sea coves.
Spend the afternoon:
- swimming in rocky turquoise bays
- exploring restored spa buildings
- relaxing in shaded terraces
- walking through mosaic-lined courtyards
- Lunch ideas
- Light seafood salads
- Grilled fish with lemon
- Souvlaki wraps
- Fresh juices and iced coffee
- Simple Greek desserts
Evening
Return to Rhodes Old Town or Mandraki Harbour for a final evening.
This is a reflective closing moment where the island’s layers feel most connected: medieval walls, harbour lights, and the calm of the Aegean Sea.
Dinner ideas:
- Seafood platters (prawns, octopus, fish)
- Lamb or grilled meat dishes
- Shared mezze spreads
- Local wine or raki
- Loukoumades or honey desserts
End with a final walk through the Old Town or along the harbour walls, where the medieval architecture feels especially atmospheric at night.
