3 Days in Rhodes
For travellers who want the essential Rhodes experience: medieval Old Town immersion, Lindos cliffside ruins, and a single well-balanced coastal day

Day 1
Morning
Begin inside Rhodes Old Town, a fully enclosed medieval city that feels more like a preserved living fortress than a museum district. Massive stone walls, fortified gates, and narrow winding streets immediately establish its scale and importance as one of the most powerful Crusader strongholds in the Mediterranean.
Start at the Street of the Knights, where stone buildings once housed different knightly orders. The architecture is severe and imposing, with carved coats of arms still visible above heavy stone doorways.
Continue toward the Palace of the Grand Master, a reconstructed fortress-palace that reflects Rhodes’ strategic and political significance during the medieval period.
Afternoon
Explore deeper into the Old Town, where quieter lanes reveal Byzantine churches, shaded courtyards, and residential corners that soften the fortress-like structure of the city.
Pause for lunch inside the maze-like streets.
Lunch ideas:
- Gyros with tzatziki and warm pita
- Moussaka baked with eggplant and minced meat
- Greek salad with ripe tomatoes and olives
- Spanakopita and cheese pies
- Iced coffee or fresh lemonade
After lunch, walk along sections of the inner and outer walls. The scale of the fortifications becomes clearer, especially where bastions overlook the sea and harbour.
Evening
Head to Mandraki Harbour, historically associated with the Colossus of Rhodes. Today it is a calm waterfront with windmills, cafés, and the deer statues marking the entrance to the harbour.
As the sun lowers, the harbour becomes one of the most atmospheric places on the island.
Dinner ideas
- Grilled octopus with olive oil and lemon
- Fresh sea bream or red mullet
- Lamb dishes with herbs
- Meze platters (tzatziki, olives, fava, grilled vegetables)
- Local white wine or rosé
- Baklava or honey pastries
Day 2
Morning
Travel to Lindos, a whitewashed village dramatically built into a hillside above the sea. The visual contrast is immediate: bright cubic houses, winding alleys, and an ancient acropolis towering above it all.
Climb to the Lindos Acropolis, where Greek ruins sit on a cliff edge overlooking two bays. The site combines classical ruins, Crusader fortifications, and natural coastal scenery in a single panoramic viewpoint.
From the top, the views stretch across:
- St. Paul’s Bay
- Lindos Bay
- rugged southeastern coastline
- the village rooftops below
Afternoon
Return to the village for lunch and exploration. Lindos is intentionally pedestrian, creating a slow and immersive walking experience through narrow stone lanes and rooftop terraces.
Lunch ideas:
- Fresh grilled octopus or calamari
- Seafood mezze plates with olive oil
- Stuffed vine leaves (dolmades)
- Greek salads with local tomatoes
- Chilled white wine or iced drinks
After lunch, head to St. Paul’s Bay, a sheltered turquoise cove surrounded by cliffs. The water here is calm and enclosed, making it one of the most scenic swimming spots on the island. Spend the rest of the afternoon swimming or relaxing by the sea.
Evening
Return to Rhodes Town.
Dinner ideas
- Lamb kleftiko (slow-roasted lamb)
- Seafood pasta with herbs
- Meze sharing plates
- Local wine from Rhodes vineyards
- Honey-based desserts or yogurt with walnuts
Day 3
Morning
Spend the morning at Tsambika Beach, one of the most open and visually striking beaches on Rhodes’ east coast. Its long stretch of golden sand and shallow turquoise water makes it ideal for relaxed swimming and slow coastal time.
The beach feels spacious and unhurried, with hills rising behind it and clear water extending outward into the Aegean.
Activities:
- swimming in calm water
- long beach walks
- sunbed relaxation
- optional viewpoint hike to Tsambika Monastery
Afternoon
Continue along the east coast depending on pace and energy. Nearby beaches such as Agia Agathi Beach or Atlantica Kolymbia Beach offer quieter alternatives with slightly different atmospheres.
Lunch ideas
- Grilled fish with lemon and herbs
- Chicken souvlaki wraps
- Greek salads with feta and olive oil
- Fried calamari and zucchini chips
- Fresh fruit, juices, or iced coffee
Evening
Return to Rhodes Town for a final evening in or near the Old Town.
Dinner ideas:
- Wood-fired pizza or pasta
- Light seafood grills
- Souvlaki plates
- Gelato or ice cream
- Local wine or cocktails
End the trip with a final walk through the Old Town streets or along Mandraki Harbour, where the medieval walls and waterfront lights create a final atmospheric contrast to the journey.
