Day 1: Gothic Splendor and Operatic Heritage

Experience Milan’s most iconic landmarks, combining Gothic architecture, elegant urban design, modern art, and one of the world’s great musical traditions.

Morning

Start at the Duomo di Milano, one of Milan’s architectural masterpieces and one of the largest Gothic cathedrals in Europe. Explore the vast interior before ascending to the rooftop terraces, where hundreds of spires, statues, and flying buttresses create one of the city’s most memorable views.

Requirements for respectful/modest attire apply at churches, synagogues, and other religious sites. Visitors should avoid disrupting religious observances and remain mindful of posted customs.

Afternoon

Visit the Museo del Novecento, where the collections of twentieth-century art trace the evolution of modern Italian artistic movements through works by Futurists, abstractionists, and postwar innovators.

Enjoy lunch near Piazza del Duomo before taking a leisurely walk through Milan’s historic center. Along the way, admire elegant nineteenth-century architecture, hidden courtyards, and streets that reveal how the city blends centuries of history with contemporary style.

Continue to the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. Known for its soaring glass roof, mosaic floors, and luxury boutiques, the gallery remains one of the world’s most beautiful shopping arcades. Look for the famous mosaic bull, where visitors traditionally spin on its heel for good luck.

Evening

Attend a performance at the Teatro alla Scala, one of the world's most celebrated opera houses and a symbol of Milan’s cultural prestige.

Optional add-on: Afterward, return to Piazza del Duomo to enjoy a late aperitivo, where the illuminated cathedral creates a memorable evening atmosphere.

Evening Plan without a Performance

If a performance is unavailable, reverse the day’s schedule by touring Teatro alla Scala and its museum in the morning and the Duomo di Milano in the late afternoon/evening. The museum explores the history of Italian opera and showcases costumes, instruments, portraits, and memorabilia associated with the theatre’s legendary performers.

Day 2: Renaissance Genius and Artistic Treasures

Follow in the footsteps of Leonardo da Vinci while exploring Milan’s religious heritage, world-class museums, and creative neighborhoods.

Morning

Begin at the Santa Maria delle Grazie, home to Leonardo da Vinci’s masterpiece, The Last Supper. Advance reservations are essential, as access is strictly controlled and visitor numbers are limited.

Requirements for respectful/modest attire apply at churches, synagogues, and other religious sites. Visitors should avoid disrupting religious observances and remain mindful of posted customs.

Continue to the Basilica di Sant'Ambrogio, one of Milan’s oldest churches and a masterpiece of Romanesque architecture closely associated with Saint Ambrose, the city’s patron saint.

Optional add-on: Visit the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana to view selections from Leonardo’s Codex Atlanticus, a collection of sketches, scientific observations, and engineering concepts.

Afternoon

Spend the afternoon at the Pinacoteca di Brera, home to collections of Renaissance and Baroque art. Highlights include masterpieces by Raphael, Bellini, Caravaggio, and Mantegna.

Afterward, explore the atmospheric streets, independent bookstores, galleries, and cafés of Brera. Browse independent boutiques in the neighborhood featuring Italian leather goods, artisan stationery, home décor, and contemporary design objects that reflect Milan's role as Italy's design capital.

Evening

Visit the Fondazione Prada, where innovative exhibitions occupy a former distillery transformed by contemporary architecture.

Optional add-on: Attend a concert at the Auditorium Fondazione Cariplo, home to a variety of orchestral, chamber, and contemporary performances.
