3 Days in Dubrovnik: Nature and Adventure
For travelers interested in outdoor experiences

Day 1: Morning Waters and a Sunset Summit
Paddle beneath Dubrovnik's walls, spend the heat of the day in Lokrum's shade, and close with one of the city's best views. Morning
Afternoon
Late Afternoon/Evening
Morning
Start early with a guided sea kayaking or stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) tour from Pile Bay, paddling beneath the city walls to Plaža Betina špilja, a hidden cave that is only reachable by water, for a swim and snorkel stop, with views of Lokrum along the way.
Thrill seekers might try guided cliff jumping from the rocks around Betina Cave, where the jumps are approximately 9 meters/30 feet. Always follow your guide's instructions and check water depth before jumping.
Return to the city for lunch in Old Port of Dubrovnik.
Late Morning/Afternoon
Take the short ferry from the Old Port to the Island of Lokrum, a protected nature reserve just fifteen minutes from Dubrovnik. Watch for the island's freely roaming peacocks and rabbits, introduced generations ago and now among Lokrum's most recognizable residents.
Begin by exploring the remains of the Benedictine Monastery of St. Mary, whose peaceful cloisters and botanical gardens reflect centuries of monastic life on the island. Continue through shaded walking trails to the Dead Sea, a small saltwater lake popular for swimming during warm weather. Depending on the weather, spend time swimming or simply relaxing before returning to Dubrovnik by mid to late afternoon.
Optional add-on: Climb to Fort Royal, built during the Napoleonic era, where panoramic views stretch across Dubrovnik's Old Town, Lokrum's forests, and the Adriatic Sea.
Late Afternoon/Evening
Optional add-on: Take the two ziplines of Panorama Zipline Dubrovnik with views of Old Town and the Adriatic Sea.
Hike the Mount Srđ Trail, the old zigzag footpath that climbs from Dubrovnik to the summit of Mount Srd, aiming to reach the top around sunset for panoramic views of the city.
Descend by Dubrovnik Cable Car and finish with dinner back in Old Town.
Day 2: Konavle Valley Adventure
Leave the coast behind to experience southern Croatia's rural landscapes, rivers, forests, and traditional villages, before returning to Dubrovnik for an iconic experience on the city walls.
Morning
Drive approximately 40 minutes to the Konavle Valley, where quiet country roads and fertile farmland provide one of southern Croatia's best cycling destinations.
Join a guided cycling tour of the region through vineyards, orchards, olive groves, and stone villages, stopping at scenic viewpoints and family farms, following peaceful backroads that reveal a slower pace of life. Many tours are based around Gruda, with routes often passing through Čilipi and other Konavle villages.
Alternate Morning Plan for ATV Enthusiasts
For thrill-seekers with ATV experience, choose a guided ATV over gravel tracks and forest trails that are inaccessible to regular vehicles, climbing into the foothills above the valley for panoramic views of Konavle and the Adriatic Sea. Along the way, guides often stop at secluded viewpoints, rural hamlets, vineyards, and centuries-old olive groves while sharing the history and traditions of the region.
Afternoon
Enjoy a traditional farmhouse lunch featuring locally produced ingredients and a wood-fired meal of peka (meat or octopus slow-cooked beneath an iron bell). After lunch, stroll beside the crystal-clear Ljuta River, where historic watermills and shaded riverside trails provide a peaceful contrast to Dubrovnik's coastline.
Late Afternoon/Evening
Return to Dubrovnik to walk the Dubrovnik City Walls, where the nearly two-kilometre circuit offers unforgettable views across terracotta rooftops, the Adriatic Sea, and neighboring Fort Lovrijenac, dramatically perched atop a rocky cliff outside the western walls.
Day 3: Elafiti Islands Exploration
Discover the quieter side of the Adriatic while hiking, kayaking, and exploring Dubrovnik's nearby islands.
Morning
Take a half-day guided kayak tour around Koločep, one of the Elafiti Islands, to see secluded coves, sea caves, and quiet fishing villages. Tours also often provide opportunities to swim and snorkel in the clear Adriatic.
Koločep is known for its Blue Cave Dubrovnik to experience azure waters and the blue glow created when sunlight filters through an underwater opening. It is a popular half-day trip that requires swimming into a small sea cavern.
Afternoon
Spend part of the afternoon exploring one of the islands on foot. Šipan offers peaceful walking trails through olive groves, vineyards, and centuries-old villages, while Lopud features forested paths leading to dramatic viewpoints and Beach Šunj, one of the few sandy beaches in southern Croatia.
Enjoy a leisurely seafood lunch before returning to Dubrovnik.
Evening
Have a beachfront dinner and then spend time relaxing at a beachside bar or strolling along Banje Beach, Dubrovnik's best-known beach, with crystal-clear waters and views of the Old Town.
